...  1987 at the height of the AIDS epidemic volunteers from Philadelphia Pennsylvania’s gay & lesbian community center at Penguin Place, decided to arrange a walk-a-thon to support area AIDS agencies and to build a public awareness about AIDS & HIV.  The Delaware Valley’s first AIDS Walk raised $33,000.  Since then, tens of thousands of fundraising walkers have turned out each year to take part in the Region’s largest annual HIV & AIDS public awareness and fundraising event.
